A group of sixth graders presented their experimental procedures, findings, and hypotheses regarding results from their kelp growth and harvesting project. The Boothbay Sea and Science Center coordinated the efforts of classrooms from five local schools where project conditions differed just a little from the other four schools, allowing each class to compare findings. It is a great opportunity for our students to present their work in front of strangers, to think critically about how science impacts our lives, and to recognize ocean research as a vital part to our local and global community. All of our student speakers did an excellent job during the presentation. Special thanks to Mrs. Browne and Ms. Currier for their work with the group, to Pauline Dion for facilitating the projects and coordinating our schools, and to the Boothbay Sea and Science Center and Bigelow Laboratories for making this event possible and for inspiring our students to think about careers in science fields. Amazing job to all!
