
It has been spirit-filled week here at BRHS. Today concludes the Winter Carnival activities that brought out the best in camaraderie and friendly competition among the students. A heartfelt 💕❤️💕 thanks to leadership from Faith Blethen, and the teachers who took a leading role in making this week fun and memorable. See pictures on the BRHS Facebook page.

On February 9, three robotics teams competed at Monmouth. They finished the qualifying rounds in 6, 14, and 15 place out of 30 teams. Two of the three teams made it into the second round of eliminations. Way to go! 6th Bayly, Will, Gerald - with robot Mo Bamba; 14th Olivia, Reagan, Nicholas - with robot Z-Score; and 15th Henry, Blake - with robot Kraft Punk

The Boothbay/Boothbay Harbor CSD School Board meeting has been rescheduled for 6pm, Thursday 2/14/19.

Congrats to Chloe Arsenault, Riley Sullivan and Hali Goodwin for being selected to the 2018 Keith Waldman — Optimal Performance Associates / NFHCA High School National Academic Squad for field hockey. Hali was honored with distinction based on her GPA.

The Boothbay Region Community Resource Center is helping families affected by the government shut down. Mr. Liberti and the high school robotics class attended a Vex Robotics qualifier competition on Saturday, December 15, at Foxcroft Academy. Their effort affords them a trip to the semi-finals. Students build and test their robots in class and then compete in state-wide challenges, earning points. Nice job Seahawks!

If you know the Rhino drawing program, the intricacy of these drawings will not be lost on you. Incredible detail, layering and shading went into these pieces. Fantastic ladies!

We Never Refuse a Student Lunch! There is a rumor circulating that we won't serve a child lunch if they owe the school money for lunches. That is false! No student is ever denied lunch. We do though expect parents to pay for the meals their children eat. They are not free.

Any sophomore that is interested in ordering a class ring but was not at the meeting can pick up a packet in the main office.

Exciting to see Mr. Gorey's students engaged in mock debates representing Maine's candidates for state and local government. It was a superb way to challenge his students to think critically, practice public speaking skills, and engage in the issues. 21st learning at its best!

Nine BRHS students were guests of the Boothbay Region Rotary International. Most of these students were either considering or already students at the VoTech in Bath. The Rotary honored those students for being the next generation of workers in the trades in our state.

Rise in Number of Students Nationally Taking the SAT. In 2017, 1.7 million students took the assessment. In 2018, 2.14 million students have taken it. Average score is 531 in math and 536 in writing and reading. Look at Khan Academy if you need help to raise your scores.

21st Century Learning in Action. I peered in a classroom and saw Faith Blethen, and Gifted and Talented teacher Emily Higgins, learn "coding" through a Mass Online College Course from Harvard. Doesn't get more 21st Century than that! Dr. Laser

The high school gifted and talented program visited the FARMS kitchen at the CLC Y on Thursday morning. Students prepared, cooked, plated, and ate a meal made from locally grown foods. The goal of team-building and community growth were achieved! Students suggested for their next visit bringing elementary students to grow relationships across the schools.

Charles Hall Acton, "Hall", from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, visited the Honors Freshman Science class at the end of September. He talked about the path that got him to NASA as well as technology he helped develop to track asteroids as they come close to Earth. Hall also brought in a sample of material used to collect space dust. Hall visits the area from California each fall and we hope to have him back again next year! https://eyes.nasa.gov/
